So I have been looking at other participants' blogs on and off for the past few weeks - since people started joining, really. It's all a bit overwhelming, even when using delicious to focus in on areas of interest. I was naturally drawn to blog names that didn't include the words 'library' and 'blog'. More imaginitive, even funny, names suggested that the blogger would be interesting.
It also became apparent how important a good blog design is. An original background makes a blogger more memorable. Images also seem like a great way to break up long text.
The most difficult thing for me was to add comments to other participant's blogs. I really had to break through my online shyness to do this. I think there is a fear that people (who don't personally know you) are going to think what you've said is stupid. That's probably why I don't use twitter as much as I should.
Anyway, The Fear is still present! However, this is continuous professional development, so hopefully by the end of this course I will have overcome it :)

Thing 1
Hello and thanks for taking a look at my blog.
I've set this blog up so I can participate in the cpd23 course, which looks like a great idea if you work in the library & information field.
I completed a full-time CILIP accredited Masters course last year and was lucky enough to find work in a college library not long after. My current role covers enquiry desk work, cataloguing, academic liaison, blogging and so much more! But in the future, I would like a role which is a bit more specialised.
I am familiar with some of the 'things' that will be covered in this course, such as blogs, online networks and referencing tools. However, I know about them more through personal use rather than in the professional sense. So I hope that this course will prepare me to use these tools professionally, as well as learn about new ones.
The things to do with developing your career and promoting yourself also look very useful.
I am looking forward to getting stuck in! I hope you will follow me on my little journey...
